More charges for alleged wedding gift thief

The accused wedding thief charged last week in the theft of $3,000 to $5,000 in gifts from a Lower Gwynedd restaurant faces additional charges in Upper Providence, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney?s Office.

Joseph Patrick Franzone Jr., 35, of Cherry Alley in Bridgeport, who surrendered to police Friday, is now also charged with stealing about $9,000 worth of gifts from the RiverCrest Golf Club on June 22.

Police said a witness saw a man loitering near the reception at RiverCrest and, at about 8:50 p.m., walk to a card box, pick it up and run into the parking lot.

On July 9, Lower Gwynedd police released pictures of a suspect believed to have taken wedding gifts out of a car belonging to members of a wedding party at the William Penn Inn on Route 202 on July 7, according to a press release from the DA?s Office. A witness to the theft in Upper Providence said she believed it was the same man seen at the reception in the RiverCrest, police said.

Lower Gwynedd police received numerous tips, including 19 identifying the suspect as Franzone, according to police. Police said they received permission from Franzone?s girlfriend to search her car and found a wedding card addressed to the couple whose reception was at the William Penn Inn.

Franzone?s attorney has said his client is addicted to drugs. His girlfriend told police he is recently unemployed.

The 35-year-old is being arraigned on the Upper Providence charges this afternoon. He is being held in Montgomery County prison on $150,000 bail and is awaiting a Friday preliminary hearing on the Lower Gwynedd charges.
