Survey Finds Business Productivity and Sales Adversely Affected by ...

Great Neck, NY (PRWEB) January 26, 2011

Nearly 3 in 4 business people expressed regret about the impact and effectiveness of their current PowerPoint and related presentation materials, in a survey conducted by Better Business Presentations http://www.BetterBusinessPresentations.com.

Many executives also felt that business productivity was being hurt in both sales growth and internal training due to outdated and often boring presentations that did not connect well with the audience.

All agreed that presentations needed to capture viewer interest almost immediately in order to maximize message impact and retention and get the audience to tune in.

These results were not surprising, states Bob Lipp, marketing executive and former university-level communications teacher who founded Better Business Presentations (BBP). In a world where people go to 3-D movies just to see the effects, uninspiring presentations and speakers who rely on simply reading text from their PowerPoint often lose the audience.

Also, our research has found that potential customers dont critique presentations, leaving speakers with the impression that the audience is actually listening to them, when clearly they are simply trying to stay awake, adds Lipp.

BBPs goal is to make presentations enjoyable to watch, relying on Flash animation and video to help make the point.

While Lipp agrees that content is critical, and message organization essential, ultimately viewers like to be wowed.

Most presentations are trying to sell or promote something, he says. They arent necessarily given to captive audiences that have to concentrate on the presentation in order to pass a test, for example. Thats where attention-getting animation, riveting graphics, entertaining video, and even interactivity play a big role in bringing the audience into the presentation and having them walk away impressed.

One executive who participated in the one-on-one surveys held by BBP actually equated weak or ineffective presentations to sales lost and customers turned off. While he couldnt give an actual figure, he suggested that losses in business growth and productivity were probably a lot higher than anyone imagined.

Ineffective or tired presentations arent prevalent in any one industry. They are, in fact, everywhere.

During 2010, Better Business Presentations updated or re-created presentations for major government agencies, leading consumer product manufacturers, and a range of B2B markets from healthcare to green energy, and more.

In a digital world, special effects seem to get more impressive every day, and as a result new standards for whats considered entertaining and exciting content require that businesses pay greater attention to their presentation materials, so that their customers and employees will do the same, concludes Lipp.
